What’s the Best Game Console For You and Your Family?

It is important for families to come together and spend quality time immersing themselves in activities that every member truly enjoys. By implementing a gaming console into your household environment, you can make all the difference when it comes time for every member of the family to want to come together and bring out his or her inner gamer by either joining forces with other family members, or competing against them for the highest score. Being able to find a happy medium pertaining to a game console is important and often more difficult than people initially realize. With such a wide spectrum of new and amusing game consoles on the market, ranging from the Xbox 360, to the Xbox Elite, to the Sony PS3, to the PSP, to the Nintendo Wii, families are not sure which gaming console and console accessories to invest in.

Sometimes reading reviews on consoles does not provide families with all the information and answers they need in order to decide where to focus their attention. Something along the lines of a Game Console Buying Guide can be useful and eye opening when in need of extra assistance. With Game Bundles on the market that can lead to more quality time to embrace family unity, it is sometimes a good option to use the internet as an effective online tool in thoroughly researching various gaming consoles and Game Bundles before making any imprudent decisions. Rather than going to an electronics store to sift through various game consoles, or asking your kids what they would find most appealing, the internet is the most effective option in allowing you to both save money and get more detailed information on different systems, what appeals most about them, what detracts most about them, and what will over all be the most practical and cost-effective investment to make.

Narrowing the lens from the sphere of gaming consoles onto the games themselves is another factor that a Game Console Buying Guide can be efficient in informing you about. A fantastic game console will yield few positive results if the games themselves do not appeal to every member of the family. Thoroughly looking into Nintendo DS & DSi Games, PC Games, Sony PS Games, Wii Games, and XBOX 360 Games is of incremental importance because the games themselves pose an intricate variant in which system will be most productive in your household. You want to be sure to invest in a gaming console that has a wide array of games as its counterparts in order to ensure your family will be able to embrace the system. Each member of the family should be able to draw upon the system and its games, and ultimately walk away from the system with a sense of amusement and accomplishment.

Gaming Systems truly do have the ability to cause family members to bond. Whether the whole family can sit down and battle it out for the top rank, or just two siblings feel the urge to team up and play, a game console can definitely strengthen bonds and push a household into the realm of contemporary gaming satisfaction. The world of gaming is constantly growing and progressing, so it is important to take the opportunity to jump on the bandwagon and get involved with something that is rapidly spreading throughout society as a modern craze. With gaming turning heads as one of the most enjoyable prevailing pastimes, it is no wonder that families all over the world are taking it upon themselves to purchase and immerse themselves in a variety of appealing games. With choices on the market geared toward young and old alike, a game console can make all the difference in any household.

Taking Care of Your Gaming Console – Things to Watch Out For

A gaming console is an important element for enjoying a game on your Wii or Xbox. However, since it is generally used most of the time, a gaming console can be damaged quite easily. If you give importance or value to your console – which may come at a really steep price, by the way – you will want to read on and find out about which elements or dangers can make your gaming console highly exposed to damage.

DUST

Like computers and laptops, consoles are equipped with fans. The main purpose of these fans is to help keep your console cool by “fanning” its internal working system. There may be times, however, when the fan may cause harm or danger to your game console. This is because the fan can gather dust and other harmful particles. If this happens, the game console may overheat or choke, until it eventually dies out.

Another factor that may cause overheating is the use of game console covers when the console is turned on. If you have a game console cover, use it only when the console is not turned on.

To prevent dust and other forms of pollution from accumulating on your console, make sure that you wipe the tray regularly. Most gaming consoles have manuals that indicate instructions about how they can be properly cleaned. Never attempt to open the console on your own, as this might mean more problems.

HEAT

Overheating is a very common term, especially when you talk about cars. However, overheating is also highly possible when it comes to game consoles. One of the best examples for this is the original Xbox 360, which automatically stops working once it overheats. The best thing to do to avoid overheating is to make sure that your game console has good ventilation. Make sure that air can circulate around your console. Placing your game console in shaded and cool areas will help a lot. Avoid putting your console in areas where there is carpeting. Likewise, things should not be placed on the console top.

Like most machines and gadgets, when the console is not in use, turn it off so that it can cool down.

POWER SURGES

Power surges are irritating. They come in the most unexpected times and they can cause a lot of damage to your game console. Sometimes, these power surges can totally destroy your console.
The best way to avoid damage from power surges is to use a surge protector. Plug your console into your surge protector.

Aside from power surges, lightning storms can also damage your game console, and in a pretty much the same level as power surges. To avoid damage, make sure that you unplug your game console during a storm, especially when lightning strikes. Do the same also when there are power surges or power interruption.

DANGERS CAUSED BY HUMANS

One of the most common reasons for game console damage is human mistakes. Your game console is a prized possession, so you must treat it like one:

-Avoid using your console for absurd purposes like reheating a pizza (on the console top).
-Never place your console in the same area where you put your drinks.
-Do not let any unguarded child (or toddler) tinker with your game console.
-If you’re not in a good mood, make sure that your game console is as far from you as possible, so that you won’t get the chance to hit it with a baseball bat or throw your controller at it. You might say that this is a far-fetched idea; however, this can be true, especially for people who easily get into tantrums, or those who are easily angered.

There are also gaming consoles with user manuals that carry information on how to properly care for these important gaming items. Make sure that you read through and understand everything that is written there, so that you won’t have problems keeping them in mind.

The best way to keep your gaming console safe and free from damage is to care for it like your own baby or your own kid brother or sister. Another way is to keep in mind that without the game console, your Xbox, Wii, or your PS3 will be extremely useless.

If you keep these tips in mind, you and your console will have a wonderful relationship that will last for years. In addition, you will be assured many years of fun and exciting gameplay!

The History of Video Game Consoles – A Blast From the Past

Whenever I start playing a few games on my Xbox 360, I couldn’t help but wonder how it all came to be. My parents always tell me that video games weren’t exactly popular back in the days and that it was considered an idea of the future. With this in mind, I began to recall my early childhood memories when it comes to video games. And since I didn’t have anything good to do today, I decided to do some research about the complete history of video game consoles. To my surprise, I realized that the very first console I had back when I was a kid wasn’t exactly the “first game console”. I had this notion that my old console was the very first produced, so I guess it was indeed worth the time researching about video game consoles.

In any case, let’s start our blast from the past as I take you back from the humble beginnings of our beloved video game consoles.

The idea of playing games in front of the television was considered absurd and a thing of the future. All except for one Ralph Baer who conceived one absurd idea; the ability to interact with your television, which includes playing games on it. This was in 1951 while building television sets for Loral in Bronx, New York. In 1966, he successfully developed a game called “Chase” where two dots chased each other around the screen. He showed the idea to his new boss, R&D owner Herbert Campman, he was given some funding and his project was taken by the company as an official one. A few years later, Ralph Baer successfully made the “Brown Box”, which is considered as the great grandfather of all video game consoles

A few years later, Magnavox decided to invest on video games and made the very first video game console called the Magnavox Oddysey. It was indeed an innovation as it was the first video game that can be connected to a television set. It was also the first when it comes to console peripherals as you can buy a light gun that you can connect to the console when playing shooting games.

In 1975, Atari came up with its own game console along with Pong, a game that would remain a popular concept until now. The console doesn’t have any controllers though; in fact, the console looks like a controller itself, so you could probably say that’s the grandfather of all handheld television games. Then, the Atari 2600 came. Released in 1977, it would become so popular that it was the only console asides from Magnavox to survive the first game console crash of 1977. Both companies continued to make games for their respective game consoles until the second game console crash of 1983. Atari and Magnavox suffered from having too many badly developed games, which explains why Nintendo became a very popular gaming brand in this era. It was in this year where the Nintendo Entertainment System was developed and released.

In Japan, it was called “Famicom” while in North America, it was either called “NES” or just plain “Nintendo”. This was my very first video game console and as far as I can remember, I played tons of games with this console. Super Mario Brothers, Legend of Zelda, Contra, Megaman, and a bunch of other games filled my cabinet instead of Barbie dolls and other girly stuff. Nintendo’s success continued until Sega rose up to challenge their game console with the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis console. Released in Japan in 1988, the Sega console gained popularity with the titular video game character and Sega mascot Sonic the Hedgehog. In fact, the only reason why I begged my parents to get me a Sega Mega Drive was because I wanted to play Sonic the Hedgehog!

Nintendo sensed that Sega was indeed getting popular, so two years after the release of the Sega Mega Drive, Nintendo released the Super Nintendo Enterntainment System or SNES. The SNES was also popular amongst kids at that time. In fact, most of my friends get confused as to what console they’d want to buy for Christmas!

Then in 1995, the era of 16 bit and 32 bit games were now overshadowed by the Sony Playstation. The video game console sported better graphics, better hardware and software support, a new set of handy controllers and the Memory Card, a device that lets gamers store their saved games. It was revolutionary indeed, since it no longer uses cartridges, but disc drives instead. Sega and Nintendo both answered with the Sega Saturn and the Nintendo 64, but when it comes to the Fifth generation of video game consoles, the Sony Playstation is the king.

Years passed and by 1999, the PC’s were now engineered towards gaming as well. Sega released the Sega Dreamcast in 1999, but was poorly received and finally discontinued in 2001 because they tried implementing a type of disc drive called the GD-Rom. It was a move to prevent software piracy, but instead it led to poor sales. Nintendo Gamecube suffered the same fate when it released the Gamecube; the console only plays 8 mm disc drives and was discontinued in 2007. Sony, on the other hand, experienced a huge success with the Playstation 2 while Microsoft released the Xbox in 2001.
